Nutrition Thyme's First Local Mother's Beach Cleanup

Find out WHY and HOW we adopted a local beach and organized a cleanup!

First Local Beach Cleanup

You can find us spending the majority of our free time out at the beach or on a hike in the mountains. This is the beauty of living in California. Since we spend so much time outdoors, we wanted to give back to the community. That's when it clicked - we want to clean the beach!

The first step in making this process happen was searching the web for ways to adopt a beach. This was the link we used to get in contact with community outreach. If you're located in California, you can likely find a location to adopt using this link. (https://coastal.ca.gov/publiced/aab/aab2.html)

Since we're located in Long Beach, CA (Los Angeles County), we chose Mother's Beach.

After filling out an application for the Adopt-A-Beach Program, we chose our first date, made a flyer and posted all over the web (via Linked In, Instagram and Facebook) as well as local businesses. The community provides you gloves, trash bags and other supplies you may need.

Next, it was important to prepare for the day. We stocked up on goods from Trader Joes and Target.

Some items to be prepared with:

  • gloves and trash bags (the community outreach provides)

  • a shaded area for your volunteers (Canopy Tent)

  • somewhere to put your goods (Table)

  • some chairs for your volunteers

  • tons of hydrating beverages (Waters & Seltzer waters)

  • sunscreen (Sun Bum)

  • snacks (Popcorn, Seaweed Snacks, Homemade Trail Mix)

  • some activities for after your cleanup (Corn hole, Football, Paddle boards)

All-in-all, the day was successful. We were so glad to have the turnout that we did and bringing the community together. We are so excited to prepare for future community wellness events. Stay tuned for more.

Thank you again City of Long Beach!
